Wakefield MA has the largest 4th of July parade in Massachusetts, second largest in New England. The parade has a strong history since 1922 and this day was the 100-year anniversary. Other notable parade dates include 1950 when JFK, who was a state rep at the time, gave a speech at the parade. Ted Kennedy and John Kerry are other famous parade walkers.
Great day in 2022 with picture perfect weather. It’s a long day starting with a early AM Flag Raising ceremony and finishing up with fireworks over Lake Quannapowitt. Marching bands came from all over the country. A big event and some years the crowds are upwards of 75,000 people.
Sitting on a beach chair we got a great view of the parade, but on the sunny side of the street. The picture was taken blinded by the sun's glare but feeling there was a good photo to be had. Our police officer friend and his horse made a quick turn going against the grain of the parade. They blocked the sun creating a silhouette of sorts. Point and shoot action shot, no retakes. Nice day in New England!!
