Monet-izing a Photo

Updated: Apr 1

Pardon the play on words. The image is a little different approach from the realism of a photograph. While there was something about the shot I liked, and that it could work, it was missing the feeling of the morning. The base colors were there, and it had some shape, but it was flat and too non-descript. Time to come up with a rescue plan.

By running the image through Photoshop and playing with some of the effects the image moved from the circular file to an image with a mood. Depth of field is modified; Color is more saturated. You know what the subject is, an overlook with a view of water, buildings and a sort of sunrise. The concept began to work with shapes and colors rather than subject.

If I had to pick a favorite artist, not photographer, its Monet. That's the influence and although the colors are richer than most Monets, the blur the artist used to create feeling is what this image is attempting to create. There are theories of why Monet painted and in the 1860's was one of the creators of the impressionist style. One is his eyesight problems pushed his creativity. For this shot it’s about making the image work.

Would love to hear any thoughts; Good, Bad or Ugly. Please send comments to Mike@piacere.site.
