Eastham gets our vote. Eastham is about 3 miles wide by 6 miles long. You can drive though Eastham on the way to Provincetown or Wellfleet, both beautiful in their own rights, but you will be missing some of the best beaches in the state.
First Encounter Beach on the Bay Side is where in 1620 the Pilgrims sent a shore party and it was their first encounter with Native Americans. Gentle waves, long low beach where you can walk out for miles at low tide, and beautiful over the ocean sunsets. Its a family and child safe beach.
Coast Guard Beach on the ocean side is part of the National Seashore and is constantly rated as the best beach in Massachusetts. Big sand dunes, waves big enough for surfing, and swimmable. We should add Coast Guard Beach is heavily patrolled but the Coast Guard and Life Guards for the threat of sharks.
So you are in the know about sharks and Cape Cod they more than likely were in the waters around the Cape. Their favorite snack was small seals. Seals had been hunted to extinction and the sharks went elsewhere. But in 1972, under the US Marine Mammal Protection Act, seals became a protected species. Once the seal population was re-established the sharks began to re-appear.
The movie Jaws was released in 1975. Though filmed at Martha's Vineyard, Jaws takes place in Amity Island off the coast of New York. The Vineyard was used as the set for it's open ocean and small towns. If there were Great Whites in the Vineyard waters it was unknown in 1875 as the first fatal shark attack in Massachusetts in 82 years occurred in 2018.
